Shchukino (Район Щукино) is a district (raion) in the North-Western Administrative Okrug, Moscow, Russia.

Geography

It borders in south with Pokrovskoye-Streshnevo District, east with Strogino District, north with Khoroshevo-Mnevniki District and West on the boundary between North-Western Administrative Okrug and Northern Administrative Okrug.

History

Naming

In 1415, Vasily I, the Grand Duchy of Moscow built a village in the east of a Moscow river, Shchukino. In order to his son was born (this boy just is Vasily II, the Grand Duchy of Moscow).

Overview

Shchukino began a city district since 1918, and the KPSU implemented a new policy in this year. It was governed by the North-Western Administrative Okrug since 1988.
